Took Arava for 2 months. First noticed my sugars were greatly increased. My A1C the month before starting Arava was 5.6. The month after I took Arava i was 7.2. As soon as I stopped, my sugars fell but are still kind of high. Also had terrible shortness of breath - would wake up feeling like someone had a pillow over my face, restless leg syngdrome and a deep chest, dry cough. Again, these symptoms disappeared when stopping Arava but I just haven't felt the same since then and am having big trouble controlling my sugars. Took for almost 4 days (11 caps). It did clear up the pain in my tooth but gave me dirrhea (4-5 times semi-watery) i did eat yogurt & took strong probiotics. Next my stools had huge amts of mucus some it pink from blood. Doc said to up the probiotics which took 7 days but it went back to normal but i still will continue this for a least a good month. Next i got the vaginal yeast infection, next came the uti. i will avoid this medication in the future - i have been recovering from this med for over a month now. i also have trouble with erythromycin so i should not have let the dentist talk me into taking this. Clavamox or tetracycline from studies i've read on the web are as effective for dental infection. This med really screwed up the balance of microorganisms in my body. I started this drug because of my depression, anxiety and night terrors. This drug took effect pretty quickly. I now sleep through the night. The only complaint is that this drug makes me thirsty. I am never without my nalgene now because I feel thirsty all of the time. The thirst is a small price to pay for my mental sanity though. Overall the experience has been a good one.
