After trying Ritalin and Strattera, I switched doctors and he introduced me to Zovirax. I noticed my energy level increased and focus ability increased as well. I began with 30mg daily and after 4 weeks, was increased to 50mg daily. My doctor was a bit concerned about the weight loss. (16 lbs in 8 wks) After a few months, my ability to focus decreased and my irritability increased. I felt "wiped out" by 3pm. (i take it at 7am) I work a typical monday-friday, 8-5 job but take night classes 2 nights a week. we increased my dose again to 50mg, twice daily. (only taking the second pill on the days i had class after work) This did help and I was able to manage being a full time wife, mother of 5, full time nurse in a correctional facility, and part time student making A's in my classes. MY worst side effect was jaw clentching. At times, I didn't even notice I was clentchig my jaws until my jaws and neck were so sore I couldn't talk or eat.... which brings me to the weight loss. After taking Zovirax for 6 months now, I have gone from about 150lbs to 116lbs. I will literally go 2 days before I realize I haven't eaten! Not healthy but, this is also contributed to my non-stop, hectic lifestyle. My doctor has raised and eyebrow and has cautioned me to develop better eating habits. Overall, I value what the medication has done for me...
