Having taken this medication sporadically for ~20 doses, I experienced some particularly frightening side/synergistic-effects. But folks, that's why it's a prescription drug. Medicine for legal purposes is an exact science; but otherwise at it's core it's all bayesian analysis and probability. It may be an 8 billion dollar a year drug in a capitalist market, but it works more than it fails. As far as this medication doing for me what it was prescribed for it does an excellent job my fluid retention is non-existant. My dosage is 100mg once daily. when my Dr. prescribed this drug I believe it was intended for dual use to work in conjuction with a beta blocker, 10mg of Propranolol 2x daily and both together, if I have my information correct to help keep my Systolic pressure to 90mmHg or lower so the pressure in the varicies veins that I have in my esophegess and my stomach will remain low to avoid any upper GI bleeds which have already occurred twice. But, I guess the point I originally started to make about this drug was that I believe I was told at some point that there is a small amount of estrogen in the Spironolact. I am a 49 yr old male, I am 5' 8" weigh 147 lbs and I don't know how else to say it except I am starting to grow prubesent boobs that are sore as hell and I cant get a Dr. to give me a straight answer on this! I think its funny to them! I admit I've had to laugh, but honestly it's not really funny and hurts like hell. So by all means Men go ahead and use this drug, just be careful of the dosage or we might be seeing each other in the women's undie isle at the local J.C.Penney! Sad but true, besides the Cirrhosis i am fortunate enough to have a laundry list such as Emphasema, Idiopathic Pulmonary fibrosis,And was back in the hospital last week where they gave me a new diagnosis of Diabetes! After trying Lexapro, this drug was the right fit for me. Honestly, it was like putting on a pair of glasses for the first time after not realizing you'd been looking a blurry world. It did make it easier to get up in the morning, it didn't affect my weight, it didn't affect my sex drive or the quality of sex, AND it really improved my daily depression.
