I took Mestinon for Fibromyalgia. At first I didn't hav any side effects. About a month into treatment I began to experience severe reflux to the point where I was coughing and my throat was burning. This continued despite the fact that I was taking 40 mg Omeprozole, 2 Zantac and assorted Pepcid and Tums throughout the day. Finally after 5 months I had to stop taking it. That is another story! I had tried to stop taking it once before but had dizzy spells. My doctor told me to take 30 mg for 2 weeks then stop. After 1 1/2 days the dizzy spells began again. Yesterday marked 2 weeks off of Mestinon, and two weeks on Meclizine. I had to take another drug to stop (or should I say make more bearable) the dizzy spells. At one point I couldn't move my head, only my eyes to stop the spinning. The benefits did not outweigh the side effects for me but they may for you since everyone tolerates medication differently. When only takeing 50mg i had no problems really no side effects but when increased to 50 mg 2x a day I got alot of side effects. The worse being nausea and constipation, hot flashes. I've not seenny real good reason to stay onit. by HONG from Nashwauk, MN
