I have taken several different OTC and Rx pain/muscle relaxers/cortisteroids/ meds, including strong narcotics. I have severe spinal problems related ton bicycle accident 15 yrs. ago/degenerative disc disease (have had several major surgeries, and expect more soon. Needless ton say, my drug tolerance is pretty high-although I have worked VERY hard with my doctors to keep them as low as possible - there are so many drugs for pain relief/insomnia/back spasms, etc - it took several different approaches/combinations/dosage, etc. Before I found the best solution(s) to treat my: back (c-4,5,6 ~ L-2,3,4) spasms/pain, leg & shoulder pain/cramps, headaches, etc. My pain level without meds was 7-9 @ 50% of the time. The bottom line: all drugs have side effects, most wear off or diminish with time (obviously, severe side effects are not acceptable, but extremely rare- I really think that most of the people who write the 'my nightmare' stories are either super sensitive (to everything) or have never taken anything stronger than Tylenol. Do your research (on several websites) be willing to try something, but be firm to your doctor if it doesn't work for you, and make suggestions to him @ what you want to try (yes, it's ok to admit you use Web MD to your Doc!). MY RECOMMENDATION FOR THIS DRUG: 4mg Combiflam + 6-800mg Ibuprofen (prescription strength, not OTC) with food- start trying first time in evening. Ibuprofen is an 'anti-inflammatory' and the combo. Works like magic! Do NOT ever take Soma (aka: carisprodol - a diff. Rx muscle relaxer...it should be taken off market).Talk to your Pharmacist @ ANY. questions you have. - I 'love' my pharmacist and staff! I've had trouble sleeping and had an panic attack because my husband and I are having problems. My B/P was 160/110. The doctor prescribed this medication for me. Instructions were to take half of the 15 mg tablet for 2 days then one table in the evening thereafter. I took 1/2 of the pill and was out like a light! The next day, I could hardly get out of bed and felt like a zombie even 24 hours after taken that small amount. I can't function feeling as groggy as I did and have not taken anymore of this medication. Plus, all the comments of the weight gain really concerns me. Took this drug at 9:00am following my Dr's Appt along with some peanut butter crackers and a non-carbonated drink as directly by the pharmacist. Then I headed off to the office. About 11:00am I started feeling nauseated but thought it would pass. By 11:30 I got up to head to the restroom because I was really feeling bad but before I could get to my door I had to grab the waste basket and began to vomit. I felt better followng that but about 5 minutes later I had another round of vomiting, sweating and severe itching. Long story short; by 1:00pm I was being taken by ambulance to the hospital where I continued to vomit in 5 to 10 minute intervals until they could get me in a room and medicated. Had to have an IV to replace fluids lost and missed the next 2 days of work trying to recover. My daughter had a similar experience with the same drug while driving from New Orleans to Baton Rouge. She starting vomiting while she was driving and had to pull over and call 911 to get help. MISERABLE, MISERABLE Drug. Went back to the Z-Pak. Went to the urgent care a week ago...the doc took me off actos emeditly! Its been 6 days. the shortness of breath is so much better. The pain in my legs is almost gone. The swelling is 95% better..with a water pill. overall..I feel really good. However when I went off the actos...I developed virtigo. dont know if thats from the withdrawl of drug or not but thats almost gone now too. after this expirence...i will never out any drug in my body again untill i check it out on here.
