had radioactive iodine treatment of thyroid gland to treat grave's disease (hyperthyroidism). thyroid gland no longer functions so i'll take this med for life. i have no problems to speak of. in response to some of the recent questions/comments--it takes 6-8 weeks for changes in dosage to register in the blood stream. so if you gained weight in the first week of taking this drug, it probably has nothing to do with the drug. also, you won't feel anything for 6-8 weeks, and the dosage may be to little or too much. but there's no way to tell until the dosage makes it's way into your blood stream (which takes 6-8 weeks) so it can take a year for your doctor to find the right dosage for you. it all depends on how your thyroid is functioning--if at all. And to the one poster who said she's lying to her doctor about taking the drug, if you're lying to your doctor about it, you probably need to see a pyschiatrist as well. if you need this drug, it's becuase you're thyroid can't produce what it's supposed to. Thyroid disorders do have a major impact on your overall well being. The importance of the thyroid gland should not be underestimated. After hospitalization for A-Fib, was started on Estrace and Rythmol. For 32 days, everything seemed fine; and then I broke out with a severe redness and itching of the face and neck with swelling, also involving soreness and tenderness of the nodes behind ears. Have spent 5 days with 3 of my private physicians and 1 emergency room physician trying to see which drug is causing it. So far, Rythmol has been stopped but face is still red and flushed, tenderness around ear and temple and scalp itching. Hopefully improvement is around the corner. Been on this medication for oh, 2 weeks now. So far it worked for the first 2 days at 100 mg and now I need 200 mg which the dr told me would happen. Now I sleep just fine, have nifty dreams BUT I have a constant nose congestion problem. It's always stuffy and when I first wake up I see "tracers" now like LSD tracers it's just everything has outlines and it makes me have to stop moving to get my bearings. It makes me dizzy and confused. Once the tracers go away/wear off things aren't so bad. I also take 500 mcg of chewable melatonin before bed. Also dr approved and have been for months.
