I hope to offer some of you some hope. Took Propranolol for 3 days (6 pills) July 17 - 20, but had also been put on Levaquin in the hospital when they thought they might do surgery (2-3 days at that time in Dec). Didn't immediately make the connection, but after 3 days weird tingling sensations and a host of other horrifying symptoms began appearing. I stopped Propranolol immediately, but as others have said, side effects continue to appear for up to 2 weeks later. I saw my PCP 2 days after stopping. He said I'm the first person he's seen with nerve damage symptoms. Insomnia, weight loss, paranoia, suicidal tendencies. Offered no 'reversal'. My mental status begins to get much worse. Thinking of suicide now. So I figure I'll head to the ER of the BEST medical hospital in the northern VA area at 1AM. They give me Gabapentin for nerves and another drug (started with a T to help shut down my mind and let me sleep. Left the ER at 3AM and filled the prescriptions immediately. At 5AM, I'm calling the same ER to talk to the same DR and FLIPPING OUT. I really would like to commit suicide by this point. Here is the good part. He says because he referred me to a neurologist (on call), that neurologist office MUST see me today if I want, regardless of what openings they have/don't have. So I insist I must see the neurologist now. 10AM that day, 5 days after I quit CIPRO, neurologist notes sudden onset peripheral neuropathy - prescribes Zolaf and valium. The new/bad symptoms continued 3 more days. Burning in the arms/chest. 2nd trip to ER 2 days later, No help. But PRAISE GOD for this neuro DR for the valium which shuts down the neurons constantly firing in my body for days and preventing me from getting any rest. Perhaps some of the bad symptoms folks have are from not getting rest because your nerves/neurons are firing constantly. My EF improved dramatically using this medication in combination with meds for blood pressure, cholesterol, allergy, and vitamins as prescribed by physician. I also lost 53 pounds, exercised 20 minutes a day (now 40 to 45), and have been heavily involved in Christian-based support groups. Twenty-six months after treatment, however, I have been experiencing sleep difficulties and a sense my heart is beating too hard or irregularly at night. Actually, I have a difficult time accurately describing the latter symptoms, but it is usually in bed that I experience this some troubling feeling concerning heartbeat. Also have some dizziness. That doesn't detract from my optimism, however, since my EF is now in normal range (was a full 10 points below) and blood tests are very encouraging. In fact, intend to take these newer symptoms to physician who, I predict, will reduce my Propranolol dosage to one pill per day (I now take two, 6.25 mg each). The night pill, I was once convinced, used to help me sleep, which is why the cardiologist continued prescribing this second pill (decision made in June of this year--2011). Since then have lost 12 pounds, which is when the dizziness, usual sense of heartbeat (let's say noticeable heartbeat at night, in bed), and difficulty sleeping really started. The last symptom (and really the last two) may have also some stress-related causes, although I've actively addressed those. So...today (Sat., Sept. 3) through Labor Day I will probably continue taking this second pill, but Tuesday Sept. 6, 2011 I am calling the physician. Reason didn't react sooner is I have a follow-up appointment with family physician in early October and thought this could wait. I have had 3 different back surgeries and was addicted to percocet every time when my surgeon would prescribe it freely.
