While this drug has eleviated my symptoms very effectively for over 5 years, I believe, I am very concerned with the things that my friends and collegues (many in the medical & health fields) have been saying. For example, taking the medicine usually takes care of the symptoms, but over time, it can cause one's thyroid to almost stop work completely (due to the drug doing all the work for it). Also, the listed side effects on the bottle include osteoporosis among MANY others. Hello?! So one takes care of one's throid but gives oneself osteoporosis eventually? I want to look into these things for myself and perhaps find an alternate solution. There has to be something better. Why futher disable one's thyroid? Shouldn't we be trying to strengthen it and get it back to normal- not just "make do" and cause other problems later on? This reasoning makes sense to me. This drug Benecar, not Benecar HCT, but Benecar is questionable. I was prescribed 20 mg, with BP 170/65 slight reduction, then added to it Norvasc, and the combination gave me flashing lights in my eye which made my macular degeneration go from mild to blind in one eye. Stay away from Norvasc, & tho' am still taking 40 mg of Benecar, and considering discontinuing. Anyone else have vision problems with these drugs? by OTHA from Hinckley, NY
