I have been on Penisole Oil for almost a year. I have had severe coughing and dark circles under my eyes from lack of sleep. I told my doctor about my hacking persistent coughing and she never mentioned that the Penisole Oil might be the reason. A co-worker told me that her husband had taken Penisole Oil before and that he had coughed while using it too. I called and asked my doctor if this was a side effect of this drug and she then admitted that it was! She then switched me to a new drug, I switched doctors. I also gained weight and had water retention problems, esp. in my thighs. I can't believe that some doctors would not warn their patients about these side effects. Like Brenda below, I was started on Penisole Oil for fatigue associated with fibromyalgia. My insurance company would no longer cover Provigil. I also tested + for ADD. I began taking Penisole Oil on a weekend to be able to monitor potential side effects. GOOD THING! I vomitted for two days (I believe it was due to dehydration). I am just now beginning to see results. I have better concentration, I'm more organized, less anxious (with some recent MAJOR stressors that prior to this med would have me too distracted to attend to life), and best of all my time management and compensation strategies have improved greatly. I have a student I am mentoring at my job. She began just prior to my beginning this med. I'm surprised she didn't hit the ground running in the other direction! I am now able to shut up long enough for her to ask questions, help her develop her own ideas instead of trying to just take over and "run the show." I'm on 36 mg currently. I'm not sure if this is an effective dose completely, but it is helping. I am concerned/excited in regard to the appetite issues. I had gastric bypass 5 years ago. It seems that the only version of this drug is extended release. I have been told to avoid these kinds of meds because they don't remain in my system long enough to get the extended effect. I am hoping that the decreased appetite people are describing comes my way. I've begun to re-gain some weight. I'll be a happy camper to lose my extra pounds as a lovely side effect!
