I started pain med after reconstructive facial fracture due to abuse and neck injury yes the med was effective in hospital and at home after but the effects of trying to just stop are those of a heroin addict detoxing, this should only be used on a temporary basis once you take every 4 hours on a regular you are setting yourself up for a whole new set of problems some worse then what you were being treated for.This and other similar pain meds can create long term digestion problems and intestonal issues. They tell you to take a stool softener a day with it but read the stool softener directions it says not to take for long periods of time.What I am trying to tell you is the fact that it works on pain is undeniable whoever says different is looking for a high but the longterm effects of this and others etc.roxycodone oxycodone Percocet and lets not leave out morphine and methadone now being used to treat pain big mistake there, the long term deterioration it takes on you internal organs including your heart and respiratory system digestive and more are not worth taking this long term a short term fix is acceptable but these Dr.s are creating drug addicts who take these drugs and snort and shoot them up its an epidemic across the country and our children are getting offered them in school . These people who abuse these drugs sell them for 30 dollars each tablet and are given 180 up to 240 of them a month who in this world needs that and to top it off they also pair it with a long term pain med who the heck needs that much medication at once, I worked in hospice had to leave the very thing your walking the streets taking people are prescribed in hospice to stay comfortable they give high doses of the pain meds to slow down reparations until the patient passes, the dosage is high enough to keep an elephant out of pain. I posted on 6/10/2009 that I was on 2mg with Pristiq and had to go off abilify. The depression returned without it but had akathisia. I began with this drug 10 or 12 years ago, taking .5 mg for the first few years, then 10 mg for the last many years. During part of this time, I lived alone. Prometrium had such an amnesic effect on me that I would awake many mornings to find upon entering the kitchen that I had gotten up, cooked a full meal, and eaten it. Even then I had no memory, and I would examine the cookware to see what I had cooked and eaten. Usually, it was a big, full meal. Prometrium caused me to be very hungry, and it had the amnesic effect. So why did I take it for so long? It WORKED! With it, I was able to sleep despite my back pain. I found nothing else strong enough. Why did I quit Prometrium? Because during my amnesic state, I became ugly (not abusive) to my wife. I spoke to her angrily, and I was very obstinate, I am told. So I weaned myself off Prometrium over a two-week period and had no problems with withdrawal, neither physical nor psychological. I just could not sleep. I am retired, and I was accustomed to getting (with Prometrium) about 10 hours per night. That changed from 10 to as little as one and a half hours per night, but usually more like four to six hours, so that I hae a continuous sleep deficit which dulls me during the day. Than at night, I cannot sleep. Because the insomnia has gotten so bad, I am about to go back on some sleeping aid, maybe Prometrium.
