I took oxycontin for almost two years for pain from aggressive Rheumatoid Arthritis. It worked well but I found tolerance built up quite quickly. I finally found a good RA treatment that allowed me to quit taking oxycontin. Quitting was much more difficult that I thought it would be even though I took the medication as prescribed. It took me 4 months of tapering followed by a one week cold turkey experience I don't want to relive. Since starting this medicine, I have been so extremely nervous, and so very hungry that all I want to do is eat. I'm coming off a 100 lb. weight loss from suspected Crohn's Disease of the stomach. No definite diagnosis has been made at this time. Is is normal for me to feel so hungry all the time? I will not see my Dr. in Cleveland until sometime in February. My symptoms from the suspected illness has calmed down somewhat while taking a combination of the Prednisone and Zofran. Taken for lower back and hip pain. Started with the 5mg for a week or two, then the 7.5, and now I'm taking 4 to 5 of the 10mg each day and I'm still miserable. I seem to be building up a tolerance quickly, and the itching, constipation, and nausea are getting worse. I took this drug for insomnia about 2-3 weeks to give the side effects a chance to go away. At first I had terrible headaches, nausea, horrible vision problems (not blurred vision as the side effects say) but almost double vision. My sight was so bad that I didn't drive for the first two weeks. My husband also said that my mood changed since starting the drug, i.e., irritability and agitation. I'm not sure if this was because of the headaches and not being able to see or the drugs effects itself. The headaches/nausea seemed to improve but the double vision stayed and the more tired I was, the worse the double vision was. I felt like I was walking around cross-eyed. I also experienced vivid dreams, none of them nightmares but very imaginative. I did not feel it helped me with sleep because I still woke up during the night. With the side effects I experienced, I was better off not taking the drug and have stopped it per my physician. by KRAIG from Money, MS
