This drug was lethal for me! It got so I couldn't take just one, and then I would be slurring my words, staggering, etc. I had gone to the dentist and had "Nitrous" during my procedure. I have major anxiety with dentists, due to back luck with several dental procedures. After my root-canal recently, I took 2 Relafen to relax, since I was so tense while having the root-canal, even with the Nitrous-Oxide! After about 10 minutes, I could barely function. I'm lucky to have been able to drive back to work. My co-workers had me lie down, and then called the dentist, and my husband to come and pick me up. It was very embarassing, as I seemed drunk, but haven't had any alcohol for over 15 years. I later found that, even after taking this medication for over a year, I'd become allergic to it. In addition, I've heard that this is a "dirty" drug, often ending up on the streets, for dealers to sell to untreated alcoholics and kids. Please use EXTREME CAUTION if taking Relafen; or better still, ask your Dr. to prescribe something else. It has become dangerously poisonous to me, and I will/can NEVER injest it again. I think it should be taken off the market, and if nothing else, be in the "Controlled Substance" class. It's worse than Oxycontin, Vicodin, or any other opiate out there. by SON from Hopeton, OK

I took topamax from 2006-2009. I only quit the meds b/c I lost my ins. and couldn't afford it. I went from 20 bad days a month to maybe 4 or 5 while on the med. But the side effects are horrible. The tingling in my hands and feet were so bad that I was tested for carpal tunnel. The memory loss I feel is irreversible. I have been off the drug for a whole year now and have shown no improvements. Losing my train of thought, can't think of simple words, and overall loss of past and recent history are very upsetting to me. I was tired all of the time, and felt like I was disconnected from the world. The only reason I stayed on the meds was because the pain of my migraines was so severe that I couldn't function,and it helped with the frequency of episodes. I began to lose MASSIVE amounts of hair, it got to the point people thought I was going through chemo. Now that I've been off of the medicine I have gained over 20lbs in about 6 months. It never made me LOSE weight but I easily maintained my weight. I have done fairly well since stopping treatment, and I'm not sure that I would go back to it if I get ins. again.
