Was given this drug for anxiety disorder. I started taking it early in the year and it took a while to work. The 1st 2 weeks were a little difficult because I would get frequent headaches, excessive sweating (all known side affects). Then once I adjusted it worked great. I felt so normal. Went off the drug on own and had terrible withdrawals. I would have really bad headaches that would last for days and frequent anxiety attacks. I even stressed out so bad that I got shingles. Taking this drug for muscle spasms related to L4/5 degenerative disk disease and severe leg pain. It does work very well for the spasms which start in my back and wrap around to the front. However...very sedating! I got great sleep, but could barely function next day. Dr cut dose in half which helped, but this drug leaves a terrible taste in my mouth for up to 2 days, plus the dry mouth. I only take it when I am desperate. by IVAN from Gautier, MS

I took two weeks of Elavil XL 150 mg. I felt fine. Exceept at the end od two weeks I developed persistent tinnitus. I stopped taking it immediately. However it has been three weeks, my tinnitus has not stopped. Some time I got so tensed that I had to take Xanax to get through the day. Will my tinnitus ever go away.
