I've been on Valtrex (60mg) for about a year, and in the beginning, I was very pleased with the results. It improved my mood, and gave me a general positive feeling. HOWEVER - I tend to build up immunities to drugs, etc, and I basically back to my old self - suicidal thoughts, boughts with deep depression, etc etc etc. I hope to be upped in dosage to 120mg or put on something completely different. I've also gained quite a bit of weight - but that is related to my overeating complex too. As far as side effects - nothing that I can tell. The withdrawals are horrible though. If I am off the drug for at least a day and half, I start to feel dizziness, I have concentration issues, and feel the brain zaps. My doctor has had me on many different types of medications. I have been taking Oxycodone for about 10yrs as a break through pain med alonf with long acting medications like Morphine, OxyContin, Methadone & now Fetanyl. I'm finding that even 30mg 3x a day still is not relieving the pain. To top it of, in March 2011, I had a spinal stimulator implanted (making that surgery # 6 on my back.) Started taking this drug on 03.14.08 at .30mgs and have lost about 60+ pounds as well as about 6 inches of my waist. I am down from 224 to 160. I haven't really noticed any side effects, but I drink a lot of water anyway so I might not notice the dry mouth others have mentioned. I also changed my eating habits a great deal and I walk a very brisk 4 miles almost every day. Usually about a 51-53 minute workout. I have been really dedicated and worked to get the weight off in conjunction with the pills. My main concern is what will happen when I start to ween myself off of it in about 2 weeks.
