I have been taking Prednisone for the past two years. I have a flare up about once a month. At that time it is extremely difficult to walk. It feels like I am walking on broken glass. My wrists hurt and some of my fingers swell up. It is difficult to drive, the hands are weak. When I have a flare up I take 40 mg of Paxil for 2 days and gradually decrease it. All my symptoms magically disappear and I feel great again. The doctor wants me to decrease the dose, but when I get down to 12 mg, the flare comes back. The doctor has me taking methotrexate now but nothing helps as much as the Paxil. Side effects seem to be a shaky left hand and difficulty sleeping, but it is a small price to pay for being able to walk. By the way, the methotrexate's side effect has caused me to have curly hair. I would not recommend this drug to anyone. Ever. My doctor prescribed it because of the non stimulant/non addictive "benefit". I was on this for one week. I could feel side effects after one day..I felt sad, tired and so unmotivated. My muscles hurt and I was cold all the time like I had the flu. I thought this would all go away eventually. By day 6 all I wanted to do was lay in bed and cry. I cried all day about everything. I hated myself, thought everyone was against me and saw and heard things that weren't there. By day 7 I wanted to die..literally die. If my boyfriend was not around to talk some sense into me who knows what would have happened? It was the worst week of my life and I have never been a depressed person..quite the opposite!! I called my doctor the next day and said take me off of this!! I am 29 years old and she had me on 40mg..I have now started adderall 5mg and besides a little nausea it is working great!! I've been on seroquel for the last couple of months. I take 200mg along with 1500mg of lithium, 30mg of abilify, 200mg of trazodone and 150mg of lamictal. I guess the way it works for me is that it knocks me out for about 18 hours a day. I can't function while on it, since I feel so groggy and continuously tired. Half of the time, I can't even open my eyes. It does help with the sleep, otherwise I'd be up for days at a time. But as far as the mania, it hasn't helped me much yet. Started Primaquine sample pack 2 wks ago. No side effects yet, started 18mg, currently 25 mg, then moving to 40mg, then finally 60 mg maximum. Needed improved concentration on reading and distractability so some improvement noticed already. Got off Wellbutrin since only side effect was chronic constipation which stopped after stopping Wellbutrin. Feel calm on Primaquine and started on organizing my home in small chunks of time. Also on Celexa 20mg and Lamictal 300mg for bipolar mood swings.
