this drug made me feel 10 years younger! I had energy, I was able to sleep thru the night and wake up well rested and my day was about 18 hrs long I got projects done that I hadn't done in 2 yrs Then all of a sudden my precription plan told me they wouldn't let me take this new drug cause there are sooo many generics that do the same thing!!!!!! Currently I am taking Elavil XR 20mg a day and have been doing for about two weeks now. Three months ago I was initially prescribed 15mg of the XR. I have a more inattentive form of AD/HD and I immediately noticed a difference in my ability to focus and concentrate, especially in school. However, as others have complained I notice it does seem to wear off a bit. It's possible I need a higher dosage for more effectiveness but I noticed I have begun jaw clenching and my dry mouth is insane! Although it's possible the dry mouth is from my Depakote. I have a Mixed Bipolar co-morbid AD/HD diagnosis. This medication is overall quite effective and can make a life changing improvement for some. However I want to caution this medication shouldn't make a person with true AD/HD feel "tweaked out", sped up, or high. It should just elevate awareness, focus, and an overall attention to detail. That's why I agree that it is safe for kids truly suffering from this diagnosis should take a stimulant medication such as Elavil.
