I am receiving treatment for depression from a psychiatrist. I wanted to die. I had fits of rage. My husband has PTSD long term .I started taking 10 mg Cymbalta daily. It really pulled me out of the anger and depression . The dose ws increased to 20 mg.My suicidal and homicidal thoughts went away. Nothing bothered me. I literally became numb emotionally, just like my husband.I could not cry. After the dose was raised to 20mg,I had palpitations and chest pain, pressure. I went to the Dr. He said if these symptoms returned to call. These side effects subsided. I experienced the fatigue, it passed. The worst side effect I've had is severe joint pain. I thought I could handle it, I was afraid of my depression returning. I decreased the dose to 10mg. This didn't reduce the joint pain and swelling.My last dose was Sept. 18.I am 61 years old. My concern is that the drug has placed me into the possibility of having permanent arthralgia, arthritis. I am very healthy and work over 40hrs/wk as an RN. I am a nurse and find Cymbalta works wonders. However, I suffer from depression/anxiety and arthritis too and take prozac or Cymbalta and tramadol and Tylenol. I recently changed to the Veterans Admin. for my healthcare. They require a psych eval before dispensing any psychtropic drugs. And here's why I'm telling you this; The psychiatrist said Cymbalta is for short-term use only. I said B.S. lady. Then she gave me a list of symptoms re: Seratonin syndrome. She took me off Cymbalta (the V A simply does not provide it) and Cymbalta. Wants me to use Ultram as little as possible. All the good sh#t. My son is 14 now and was diagnosed with ADHD in 2nd grade. We've tried different medications (Strattera, Focalin, Adderall) and they'd help for a while but the symptoms would eventually bleed through, even with increased dosage. He was not growing, gaining weight or sleeping at night. His doctor finally prescribed Cymbalta. We have still had a few increases in dosage, but he's finally having growth spurts and putting on more weight. He's also able to complete his homework and understand assignments. His appetite is better and the hyperactivity is better controlled, even late in the day. It also doesn't affect his sleep as much, although we occasionally do still need to supplement melatonin. No one therapy is right for every kid, but I'm thankful this works for him. *We do not take him off therapy in the summer, as his doctor feels it is best for the medication to be consistent and not "take breaks".
