I was misdiagnosed with MRSA 5 months ago and prescribed this drug. Thanks to other reviews, I was very proactive in preventing further problems from it. It is definitely a strong drug and I could see the effects on my digestive system during as well as several weeks AFTER I was done with it. I made sure to take a good probiotic pill from the health food store as well as ate natural probiotic foods such as real yogurt, keifer, pickles and real miso soup (from a paste at the health food store dissolved into boiling water). Several weeks after I relaxed being so vigilant, I had one scarey and horrible day with severe abdominal cramping and running to the bathroom every 30 minutes with "snotty" poo which others described too. I believe I was on the brink of CDif and ate several bowls of yogurt that day and the next and the problem went away quickly. I am unfortunately allergic to penecillans and sulfa drugs so seem to be stuck with this harsh drug as my antibiotic but I have no other side affects other than it wreaking havoc on my digestive system. I am on it a second time this year for a dental treatment and am again, being very proactive about preventing the very serious conditions that it can produce when it kills ALL the bacteria (good included) in the body. I am disappointed with the FDA for not putting on the info sheet some instructions that seem vital to surviving this drug, with how to replace the good bacteria in the digestive system . I had Chicken Pox when I was 4 or 5. I'm 59 now. I noticed a doted Rash that ran in a straight line from the front right side of my Stomach all the way around to the center of my Back. I didn't know what it was as I'd never heard of Shingles except on TV. Well within four days I had Big Blisters, and Swelling on my Rash Area! I also developed a Fever, Severe Blisters, Sick to My Stomach, "Bad" Headaches, and I couldn't touch the infected area. I had to sleep on my left side, but the pain form the Shingles would not allow me to sleep more than three hours a night due to the Pain and Aches in the affected area. I've had the Disease for almost two months. The Blisters are gone, but my skin is still rough, very tender and swollen. Made the mistake of scratching.....like putting a Hot Poker on the infected area. If you're 50+, go and get the Chicken Pox Booster Shot A.S.A.P., Please, this is serious. I wouldn't want anyone else to have to go through this Pain and suffering! Some people get it on their face; you can get Permanent eye damage if it gets near your eyes. I was put on Acyclovir 800mg, 1-4 times a day, plus 10/325 of Percocet, 1-4 times a day; (both drugs were generic). Had to go to the E.R. to be treated. I was "not" given Nurontin, which I heard helped with the Nerve Pain?? Again if you're 50 or over, please get the Chicken Pox Booster or the real Vaccine even if your Dr. tries to talk you out of it, and they will!!
