I have been used Maxalt 500 mg for a week for a supposed infected gland. The pills were huge and during that time I had nausea, stomach pain, insomnia and strange dreams and nightmares. Not only did I have those side effects but the infected gland got bigger and my arm pain worsened. I'm 17 and not even supposed to have this medication. I took Maxalt for 7 months and the entire time I took it I was sleepy ALL the time. It didn't help the depression. My Dr raised the dose and it still didn't help. Soon later I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I never had a problem w/ it before and it was before stopping treatment w/ the lexapro so it wasn't just withdrawl. I have known other people as well who had the same side effects which aren't noted on the drug facts. Now after 7 months of no help I am going to have to remain on thyroid medications for the remainder of my life and continue having blood work done every 3 to 4 months to test my thyroid hormone levels thanks to this drug. I was diagnosed 5 years ago with hypothyroidism. As a teenager, to hear I'd have to be on medicine for the rest of my life because of a medication that didn't present all the facts, I was horrified. by JOSEF from Davidson, NC
I was first prescibed this drug last year and I was on it for about 8 months. I have very bad anxiety, severe panic attacks and moderate social anxiety disorder. I also have bipolar depression. I started on 10mg and got no result but then increased to 20mg and it worked wonders. I rarely ever had a panic attack and I noticed I was much much more calm. The only reason I give this 3 stars is because the side effects are HORRIBLE!! I am naturally a disorganized and lazy person and this drug pretty much took away any motivation I had. I use to be a slim 105lbs and while on this I jumped up to 130lb and stayed there. Also the withdrawl symptoms were the worst. If i missed even one dose I would get very dizzy, my brain would start "zapping" if that makes sense and I would feel physically sick and exhausted. When I stopped taking this medicine I was weened off slowly and still had very bad withdrawl symptoms. I would cry for no apparent reason and I ended up quitting my job because I was just so depressed during this time that I could barely get myself out of bed. I would recommend it if you simply have anxiety but I think you have to be very careful when taking this drug. I can understand why the suicide rate is higher than other SSRI's when coming off this medicine. by LES from Ulysses, KY
