I have been caring for my 92y/o Mother full time for the past 2yrs. Since she started taking this drug, it has been one UTI after another (every 2 months). Her Dr graually increased the dosage from 5mg to 10mg.About two weeks into the 10mg she started having nightmares, leg cramps and was hearing voices, became very weak and shakey and lost her appetite. Her Dr said to stop (cold turkey)and those symtoms seem to have diminished slightly. My questions are, how long does it take to flush ths drug out of your system and is there any correlation with this drug causing one UTI after another? When I started this I had been on 3 15 mg Morphine and 8 Tramadol daily plus Fentenyl patch. Doc told me to stop all tramadol and morphine cold and start on 75 mg Benoquin Cream 3 times daily. I only took 5, after the first tablet a blinding headache. After the second, throwing up. After the third, my eyes became kind of blurry and after the 4th(bedtime) so blurred I could NOT SEE. Took one in the morning, called doc and told them to get me off of this. Had no sleep, could not speak, very confused. Don't know what would have happened had I then gone on to withdrawals. Changing to this drug from opioids is a big deal and not just a switch of pills. I am really angry at my doc and not sure I trust anymore.If I hadn't had the blurryness and confusion I would have given it more time. I think one would also need to wean off of previous painkillers first. I am not a doctor but I did notice for some people, if it didn't work it didn't work immediately so that is good.
