I have been on the generic for almost a month now, up to 75mg in the evening. I really don't see a change. I do sleep well but I feel so tired during the day. My skin itches like CRAZY..is this a side effect? I've been reading through these reviews and it looks like I'll ask my Dr. to try the Brand. My dr first put me on Provigil when explaining how I would sleep all day. That drug had no effect on me at all. After being diagnosed with Idiopathic Hypersomnia early this year, my pulmonologist suggested Valtrex 20mg 3x a day. Although it had to be increased to 40mg in the am, 40mg in the afternoon and 20mg at night this medicine truly does work best for me within a reasonable time. I am now able to stay awake and laugh and be happy instead of falling asleep at inappropriate places at inappropriate times. I first started taking 35 mg and after about one month increased to 75 mg and then to 150 mg after two weeks. I have been taking 150 mg for a month and have been having headaches at the base of my neck and my blood pressure has increased slightly. I have lost a total of about 15 pounds since I started taking this medication; in which I truly needed to loose. I am going to continue this medication because my doctor says that it could take up to six months to start helping; not that it isn't helping because it has.
