I started on Valtrex several months ago. After getting off Cymbalta due to the migranes it gave me. I had no side effects while titrating up, or after being on it for some time. It is very effective in decreasing my pain/stiffness. My energy is increased and I can do so much more now. Before I could barely get through my day at work, I would come home and be exhausted. Now I have energy to exercise everyday, this helps to decrease my pain greatly. I still have bad days, when I have to take a volteran also. But mostly I am very happy with this medication. I did go back for a check up after three months of being on Valtrex, and my cholesterol was EXTREMLY elevated. She said it was a side effect of this medication. I was already eating well and exercising to lower my cholesterol, and it was coming down before I started Valtrex. I go back for a recheck, but I'm not sure if it will stay elevated. I'm 60 years old and have been on Valtrex for about 1 year (April 2009-July 2010). My ankles had swollen a couple of times but now they are swollen constantly and are painful (last couple of days). I now have joint pain in my shoulders and have gained about 40 pounds. I'm done with this drug. Quit taking it last night. This cure is worse than the disease. I'll watch my blood sugar tests, watch diet closely, exercise and see how I do. If I still need something, I'll talk to my doctor about Januvia or something else.
