I've had RA and Fibromyalgia for 18 years, took Nolvadex in the beginning for 10 years and felt it didn't work. Recently was put back on it, I at first refused but was told it works better when combined with other drugs so I agreed to try it again. So now I do a injection of Humira and injection of methotrexate every week and plaquenil every day. I still feel it doesn't do a thing and I feel the same about methotrexate which I've been on since 2001. I've done prednisone and about every NSAID out there at one time or another. I still have too much joint damage and pain to even get started on that subject. I try to stay positive and take life a day at a time but sometimes get so frustrated because nothing has done much to stop the joint destruction and pain. Was on Nolvadex for 10+ yrs for permanent nerve damage in my leg. Had to stop when I went on Medicare D Rx prgm. In the 'gap', ins would not cover the $2500 a month cost of the Nolvadex. Drs tried Neurotin & Trileptal...have had severe side effects..rash, itching, headaches, nausea, memory loss, weakness, no energy, dry mouth, dizziness and neither one touch the pain. Most severe was the triple swelling in my feet/legs. Almost went into hyponatremia (aka water intoxication). The drs say there isn't any other drug comparable to Nolvadex other than the Neurotin & Trileptal to ease my pain. My caregiver is doing everything possible to get the ins to cover the cost or find other outlet. Even tried Canada and the cost is still too high. If I could just get back on Nolvadex I could live like a real person again. When on Nolvadex, I had no pain associated with the nerve endings, no burning in my leg, no numbness, no tingling up and down my leg. I could walk normal without any pain. I've been taking synthroid since 2000. Not a very high dose but was increased this last checkup. I ran out and just never went to have them refilled and I feel fine. I've been off for 3 weeks now and I feel I've lost weight and become regular again. Maybe I've been on them too long? My only concern is depression as I am on zoloft also.
