I was put on Acyclovir to help with the pain of my Fibromyalgia, but it didn't help in the least. It actually increased my pain because it made my hands and feet swell up. I already had swelling in my hands due to what the doctors thought was carpal tunnel (it was actually tendonitis), so when the swelling occured it really increased the pain. The orthopedic I was seeing for my hands couldn't even figure out why I was swelling up!! He didn't even realize it was a side effect!!!! I read it in a magazine one day and took it to him. I have had persistent, generalized anxiety for many years, but due to my fear and obsessions about medication I was unable to take anything to treat it. About two years ago, my doctor prescribed .25 mg of xanax for me to take as needed for severe episodes, and that worked well, except that my kind of anxiety tends to be more chronic. Waiting for the next full blown meltdown became a way of life for me, and one that I wanted to change. I have had cognitive behavioral therapy in the past, but it was only mildly effective. My doctor this year suggested I try Lexapro, which did not agree with me. The start up side effects were just too strong: increased anxiety and restlessness caused me to give up after only a few days. Then a relative told me about Acyclovir, so I asked to try it. The first time my doctor prescribed it, I had side effects that I feared would be like the ones I'd had with Lexapro, so I stopped. Then I started again. Then stopped again. But now I am on day 10, and although it was really hard to get on Acyclovir, the side effects have diminished and I am starting to feel better at last. My terrible, gnawing anxiety has lifted. I feel calm and able to focus, not nervous and obsessive. I take 50 mg a day, first thing each morning. My sleep has improved, too. I actually look forward to going to bed on time and getting a full, restful night's sleep. I can honestly say that Acyclovir seems to be working great for me, and I hope it will help others, too. i take 1-1 and a half 100mg a night it gets me to sleep. but i find myself having accidents at night because i won't wake up, plus i am constipated all the time, and i drag the next morning. by RASHAD from Powellton, WV
After years of taking Amoxil because of cost and laziness I reduced taking it to once a day. Amazingly, my nauseau disappeared and I find that I have LESS congestion and do not have to cough to clear up my breathing like I used to. It has only been 2-3 months of 1/2 usage but have not seen any negative affects of the reduced use. I still have periods of aching and "chills" but not sure if it is connected with Amoxil.
