I began this medication to treat OCD and prevent post pardum symptoms. It works well for me but I am very upset that I can not reduce my dose or discontinue the medication. It is a double edged sword. You may feel better while taking it but end up severely depressed and anxious if you miss a dose. If I could do it all over again, I would try anything I could to avoid antidepressents. It has been two years since my son was born and I am still taking the medication because I can't bare the withdrawl (fever, severe headache, nausea, vomiting, crippling depression, panic, suicidal thoughts, hopelessness.) First time use at 10mg, a low dose & took late afternoon..by late evening my head seemed as if it were going to explode, tried sleeping but head continued to throb in pain. By 7am my head was still in pain & the entire day left me totally unable to do any normal activities. Luckily I didn't have to go to a job! All day I struggled with head pain, eyes feeling heavy/tired/sensitive to light & totally 'hung-over' feeling. By late afternoon I could feel the drug existence lessening in my system & gradually allowing me to move about! Phew..one tiny pill with a huge effect! I never had any anti-dep pills effect me that way & I have taken many[Effexor,Lexapro,Elavil,Neurontin,Cymbalta,We llbutrin,etc]. Whew~ I am still feeling after effects of this low dose of Arava...could it possibly be that I accepted the Generic version of this drug that offered me such negative results?
