I did fine on this medicine for about a year. Then I began to experience muscle weakness/pain in my legs. I am taking 100 mg of Topomax and was prescribed it for migraines, which I got daily. It relieved me of my migraines, and I have not had any weight loss really (but I am already slim to begin with). The one startling side effect is that I have started hearing voices. These episodes happen maybe once or twice a week, and last about 10 minutes. It sounds like fast talking, very repetitious, quickly for me to understand, and it gets as loud as a scream. It isn’t as though the voice is telling me to do something – it is just extremely disturbing and I have never experienced anything like this before taking the drug. This medication was okay for a while. But the Doctor kept upping the dose. I took it with Prozac also. The sucidal thoughts never left my mind and I finally tried to kill myself. Started taking for migraine prevention. Found it also helped reduce the pain from my fibromyalgia a great deal. Found that 20 mg helped best with pain, but had to reduce to 15 mg as it induced a hypomanic state (bipolar II). Wish I could take more for fibromyalgia, and for better migraine prevention, but still this is the best medication I've found for all 3. Highly recommended.
