I was given levaquin in its IV form for a serious case of cellulitis. Sadly the cure may have became worse than the disease. A few days after completing the treatment I developed weakness in my left leg. Upon re-reading the side effects printout that the pharmacy provided, I noticed that I had most of the symptoms reported under nerve damage. Being one who believes in cause and effect I asked my doctor if this weakness could have been caused by this medication, and what could be done about it. He assured me that this was not the case and that the cause was probably a pinched nerve in my back. A few days later I needed a cane to walk as my calf muscle had become too weak to support my weight. At the same time my pulse rate was increasing with even moderate physical activity, another potential side effect. Having worked out for years and being in very good physical condition, this was alarming. Two weeks later I found myself in the ER with a blood clot in my left calf muscle and a pulmonary embolism from some of the clot having moved to my lungs, which almost killed me. I don't know if the clot was the result of my muscle paralysis, the medication, or just a coincidence, but it is hard to believe that there is not a connection.
