I encountered severe stomach pains for several days and over the counter drugs were not able to assist. After a visit with my physician and further assessment, I was given a sample of Arava- 750mg. I took it at 5:30 p.m. and by 7:30 p.m. my lips were swelling and by 5:00 a.m. my whole face was disfigured. I visited my physician the following morning and was given an immediate shot of prednisone and had to take a five day regiment of 20 mg of Prednisone. In reading the possible side effects information, it appears that I probably should not have taken any anti-diarrhea medication as suggested by my physician if I was going to be prescibed this medication. I commented earlier on that this drug seemed to take a while to kick in. When it did, it seemed to work. However, at the end of my 7 days I still had pain, hardness and swelling. The doctor had to extend treatment for an additional 4 days. I was not amused. Since I had to take this 4 times per day, it was hard to do what with the eating at odd hours, etc. 6a.m. and 11p.m. being the worst. But, also, after a while I found what others were saying about feeling sick after taking these meds. Also, one day I didn't take it with enough water and it stuck just below my throat. I just stopped to finish one thing before going to get more water, but by then it was too late. I had to suffer with the ill smell and probably foul breath along with the taste all evening! Yuck. I have had migaines for years since I was 12 years old, I have tried many differnt drugs and pain pills to ease the pain. I have been on topamax for over a year now, I started out with all the side effect ( tingling in feet, metalic taste, loss of words, memory loss.. you name it I had) but It all does go away once you continue to take the medication. I'm now on 200 mg a day 100 in the am and 100 in the pm.. the max dose for migraine treatment. My migraines use to last 6 to 8 days at a time. I spent days & night in the hospital with my relief. (yes I said the hospital). I was addicted to pain medication to get through the days because I couldn't function the pain behind my right eye was so intense I was waiting for it to pop out across the room.
