I am NOT taking this drug for anxiety or any other psychological condition; I'm taking it for persistent nerve pain after a botched surgery. It is the ONLY thing that works (I've tried gabapentin, Topamax, acupuncture, massage therapy, etc. - all completely ineffective.) I was diagnosed with ADD at age 41, and prescribed 20mg 1x/day. It helped a little but not enough to cause me to really follow a treatment track with enthusiasm...typical ADD. Anyway, I am now 46; I have had 4 different employers in that time, plenty of stress, depression, anxiety, low self esteem, etc. Three years ago, I had the double sleep study which revealed that I have narcolepsy. So now, my sleep specialist has me taking 30mg XR in the morning, and Buspar tabs of 20mg at 9am/noon/3pm for a total of 90mg/day. I think that the biggest drag in this whole process is that Buspar is just a daytime life support system for my exhaustion; it does enable me to focus, hustle, retain instructions, etc. But - I still have an incurable sleep disorder which never allows me to get restorative sleep. I am definitely addicted to Buspar; I get anxious when my doctor goes on vacation because he has done it in the past, without notice! Needless to say, I am changing doctors. Finally, I can relate to people that complain about the zombie effect. I have a great ability to entertain my family and friends with my humor, and sometimes it will just disappear for days. My new doctor said that he is worried about my heart; I told him that I am at peace with "death by heart attack". He was not amused. I wasn't trying to be funny, just pragmatic. Clozaril has been a lifesaver for me post-menopause. Hot flashes and night sweats were severe. Anyone who complains about 'weaning off' should have read about the drug before taking it. My dr. told me right up front that if I wanted to discontinue useage, I had to be prescribed something else for about 2-3 weeks. If you're using the internet to read these postings, you should be using it to read about the side-effects of stopping usage suddenly. Yes, they're severe and horrible. Missing a pill is not pleasant. But this is all part of the deal. I can't take HRT due to cancer history in my family, and this drug has the fewest side effects of anything I researched. Do your homework, folks, and don't take anything you don't understand fully.
