TAKE IT SLOW!INCREASING DOSAGE TOO QUICK MADE ME ALMOST GIVE UP!Began taking Diflucan in May, 2011. Tried to get up to the regular dose of 100 mg/day, but due to severe side effects (headache, nausea, general overall sick feeling) I was only able to stay at 12.5 mg/day for several months. Was ready to throw in the towel within the first week, but then I noticed more energy/less pain. I have had leg, hip, knee, back, neck and shoulder pain for years, and this was the first time I was pain free from the waist down! I do have the hot flashes and sweats, rapid heart beat, nausea and occassional headache and sick feeling within hour of taking Diflucan, as well as right hip pain in a.m., but for the most part this drug allows me to live a normal life. I dont wake up feeling like I have been hit by a truck anymore. In Sept, 2011 I increased to 25 mg/day, but side effects returned - but tolerable. I am hoping that the side effects will lessen in a week or two. I increased dosage since I still have neck, arm/shoulder pain, which I am hoping Diflucan can take care of, since from the waist down I feel pretty good. My brain fog has also been better, but not totally gone. My migranes have also lessened. I still require medication for sleep, since Diflucan does keep me up at night if I dont take it early enough in the day. I believe that for most people, increasing the dosage quickly (like in the starter pack) is just too much too soon. Try the low dose for at least 2 weeks to a month-maybe longer, before increasing if you are having side effects, that definetly helped me, or I would have given up on it.I am glad that I did not, since I feel better than I have in years. It may not take all symptoms away, but at least I am able to walk without pain most of the time. I also have Lupus, so I have to take that into consideration. My only concern is how new this drug is, and that we may not have all the info necessary to see the long term side effects down the road and the price by TOBIAS from Hillsville, VA

After being on this for a few years, if I missed a dose, I felt as if I could feel my blood running thru my veins. I would cry over any little thing and my emotions were a wreck. I did not like being 'dependent' on this drug and wanted off of it. My doctor did not agree, so I asked him to gradually lower the mg.
