Initially I experienced severe muscle/leg pain using 1-40 mg. tab of zocor per day. About that time my doctor and I cut my pills into quarters (or 10mg/day). This regimen after 2 yrs. lowered my triglycerides and cholesterol to normal levels. During this time I was walking up to 3 miles/day, 3x/wk. and using free weights 2/x/week; also doing heavy yard work, housework, soring through the garage and house for an upcoming move. Then once I moved my stuff into a storage unit and left for an 8wk. vacation to Oregon, my regimen changed to very light physical activity: playing with grandkids, housework, some walking. Within 4 wks., I experienced extreme pain in my extremities moving to my butt/hips area. After another 8 wks. I consulted with my Dr. and we decided to do a blood test to see if I had a build up of zocor; lo and behold, even at 10 mg./day, I had enough zocor in me to have extreme muscle pain. I was advised to discontinue this medicine and wait about 6 wks. to do another blood test: to see if I still have it in my system. It's been about 4 wks since my 1st blood test and I'm still in extreme pain, almost worse now than before. How long before this medicine wastes out of my system? After taking this medication for only 7 days, my brother-in-law commited suicide. He was a kind, gentle man who never talked of suicide, was dealing with health issues (gall bladder problems) and they put him on this medication because it was taking the stomach doctor so long to get him in to take care of his stomach issues. He was a person who never would have even thought of hurting himself nor his family. He had a loving wife, loving children and grandchildren. They are now having to face losing him this way.
