For the past four months, I have been taking Remeron (600 mg.) and Effexor (300 mg.) for severe depression and anxiety. I have been on Effexor for five years, which began with 75 mg. was increased to 150 mg, and then to 225 mg. before beginning the Remeron. Once I started this one, the Effexor was bumped up to 300 mg. Since beginning this high dose combination, I have gained 26 lbs., began chewing the skin on my fingers (nervousness), have vivid nightmares, constant sweating, dizzy spells, loss of memory, itchiness, sleepiness, losing my chain-of-thought in the middle of a sentence, shortness of breath, and heart palpitations. On one occasion, I passed out in the bathroom, and woke up in a fog – wondering how and why I was in the floor. While the severity of the depression, anxiety (and muscular pain from Fibromyalgia) has lessened, I continue to have little interest in getting out of bed, leaving home, interacting with others, and driving. In the past, I have tried other medications for depression (e.g., Prozac, Celexa, and Cymbalta), and did not have as many issues. I took Prozac for about six years and only experienced talking excessively. With the Celexa and Cymbalta, I experienced insomnia and continued having episodes of depression and anxiety, but not as severe as I had when I did not take any medication. With the symptoms I am having with this current combination, I am not sure which medications will work for me, but I plan to consult my doctor about a few of the medications some of you mentioned (i.e., Abilify, Remeron, and Lamictil). Also, I have a prosthetic heart valve and the last thing I need is an increase in the symptoms I am having with the Remeron!! by OTTO from Minneapolis, KS
I have allot of stress in my life, seems like the world and all of my past flases in front of me when I try to fall asleep. This has been a problem my whole life, I have been on Lorazapam, and Seriquil most of my life, and it had little positive affect. However A new Dr. Put me on 10 mg of this , and by God it put me out for the whole night, I woke up in the morning refreshed and without feeling beaten to death, This is my first week in years I feel refreshed, and rested. I do not know how long this will work the way it does, cause after a period of time like any medication the affects deteriorate, but for now I am rested and very happy, and best of all one pill at night before bed and I am a new man in the morning. I have been suffering from depression since my teens, and I finaly decided to give anti-depressants a try after years of theropy. The first few days on lexapro I had headaches and felt extremely tired, but overall my mood felt much brighter and more stable. I also felt nauseous and indigestion, so my doctor had me switch to taking it at night instead of morning. I am taking 10mg right now and will probably need to go up to 20mg. I also have had the loss in sexual pleasure, but it feels like it is going away.
