I used this drug to treat my shingles. It did deal with the nerve pain. I didn't discern any side effects while I had the shingles except for my mood. I found myself having negative thought about everything. Any situation I was in, whatever thought crossed my mind, it was negative. I was a bitch and didn't even know it for a while. After I stropped taking the drug (weaning myself slowly over 5 days), I thought the bitchiness would leave. It's been 2 weeks and it's mostly gone, but there are other side effects. I have a bad case of dry mouth. I drink gallons of water a day now. I also find my joints (wrists, elbows, shoulders and knees) are sore especially upon waking, and they are weak. Used as a medication for "Break-Through" Pain. Over a period of 5-6 Years at increased dosage and increased from QD (once a day) through QID (Four times a Day) to PRN (As Needed) The medication has become less effective to the point of not compleatly relieving the "BreakThrough" Pain compleatly. I think that it should be replaced with another medication with a different pharmacological makeup in order to achieve the aim of relief of "BreakThrough" pain. I think that the primary pain management med (Fentenyl 50 MCG per Hr. Patches, Q 72 Hr. should be adjusted to a dosage/ Frequency that is more effective viz. reducing the Yo-Yo effect of such a short time of actual effectiveness. I have taken this med for about 3 months and it has done wonders for my BP. My BP was 235/115 and it is now 135/85. At first I was on 20 mg and am now on 40 mg. At first I had dizzyness, diarrhea and lightheadedness, but those have gone away. I still have the cough which makes me gag sometimes, but that is the only side effect I have left. I asked the dr if there was anything I could do about that and he said no. I thought the longer I took the med, that the cough would go away as well. I would recommend this med to anyone with high BP. It has brought down my BP 100 points on top and 30 points on the bottom.
