I have had abdominal pain of unknown origin for about two years now. It comes and goes but when it is there it is full force. I have had kidney stones twice and the pain from whatever I am dealing with is worse. I have taken oxycodone as needed for about a year and a half and I would say 70% of the time that did not work and I would end up in the ER. After reading reviews on here I was a little apprehensive about getting Elavil oral even though I had received it several times through an IV with great results. I am taking 4mg every 4 hours as needed and it not only works great but it also doesn't make me feel high like oxycodone nor does it give me the feeling that I am getting addicted (never have been on Oxycodone but got the feeling it was going that way a couple of times and had to stop it). Hopefully they will find out what is causing my problems, I have a exploratory laparoscopy planned, and I will not need this medicine anymore but in the mean time it is a life saver. The only side effect I have had is nausea and slight constipation, which I had both with the oxycodone as well but the constipation is no where near as bad with the Elavil. The nausea can be prevented by eating something small right before taking the pills or by taking a Zofran with it if I do not feel like eating. by ZACHARIAH from Clear Lake, SD
Took first (and last) dose ever of Elavil last night as a temporary adjunct to URI/asthma management. Awful awful GI/stomach/ knot like feeling almost on the verge of puking, unrelieved by Tums or Nexium, and now terrible nasal and ear stuffiness/congestion. 12 hours after taking it, still not eased. I have neuropathy and depression I have been taking cymbalta(60mg)for 10 months,in addition I also take lyrica(100mg 3x a day) and abilify(5mg).Elavil along with lyrica does help with my pain,but not my depression.There are many of the same side affects from both these drugs so you don't really know which one is causing the side affects.(blurred vision,forgetfulness,sleepiness,extreme sweating,ringing in the ears,ect.You have to weigh the pros and the cons of these drugs,for some they might work,others not. afraid to sleep without it. 1 MG was prescibed for resltess leg syndrome. cant stay asleep without it nor lay still for 5 minutes without it(sleep study said i had the most active legs they've recorded, thrashing like an allegator, clawing my husband), i use whole pill if i can commit to 8 hrs of deep sleep or else i cant get up. i use 1/2 pill for less deep or less time for sleep. occasionally skip a night or 2 if it starts to get less effective as body gets too used to it. by RONNY from Fayetteville, TX
