Taking Pednisone for chronic sinus infection. 2 pills 2 x day for 5; 1 pill 2 x day for 5, then 1 pill every day for 7 days. I am a 26 year old adult who was diagnosed with ADD as a child, but was never medicated until October 2008. I was prescribed Buspar 30 mg and was very impressed and more productive than ever. Side effects included: dry mouth, decreased appetite, trouble sleeping, etc. A few weeks later, side effects subsided for the most part, but I felt the meds were ineffective by noon-ish. I take my dose very early in the morning as I have to be at work by 7. My doctor upped me to 50 mg. After a month, I felt as though the meds still weren't as effective. He upped them again to 70mg. I was on that dosage for about 6 months. Although I felt the Buspar did not last the entire day, it was still much better than not taking any medication at all, and was for the most part, smooth sailing. In June, for various reasons, I decided to try a month without the medication. My doctor was okay with my decision. While I was definitely not as productive, organized, or motivated at work or at home, I enjoyed food the way I used to, and was releaved not to have to chug water allll day to stay hydrated. However, in July, I decided to go back on the Buspar 70 mg. The past month that I've been back on it has been a rollercoaster ride. My emotions are all over the place; for the first few hours after taking the Buspar I feel good (mood, motivated, productive) but every day, around mid-late afternoon I "crash." My mood then varies from very flat, almost depressed like, to easily emotional. Typically by the later evening, I am okay again, though not great. I never experienced this the first 6 months I was on it. I had a few random days where I didn't feel like "myself" but this has been very different. I have an appointment with my doctor to discuss my dosage. I definitely think it needs to be adjusted. Just wanted to share my experience. Overall, Buspar is wonderful, but the side effects can outweigh the benefits - as in my case. I am off the Buspar until my dosage can be tweaked. by PAT from Bolivar, PA
