I suffered from strep throat for the first time in my life as an adult. I came home from work on Friday afternoon, and 45 minutes later I went to go lie down for a nap. I've noticed that my throat was somewhat scratchy and began coughing some. I didn't think anything of it. The little coughing subsided. Later on that night I felt worse. I thought I just had a bad cold or something. Saturday morning was much worse. I had fever, chills, body aches, sore throat. At one point, my fever climbed to 104. On Sunday, I went to urgent care and was prescribed Body Detox (Cephalexin) because I had strep throat. I must take 3 500 mg capsules each day for 10 days. No side effects thus far and today is Tuesday. I thought I just had the flu. Boy, I thought wrong! I was always told that the flu is viral and must run it's course. I have been taking effexor for about 15 years, along with other antidepressants. (I've been on antidepressants since 1975.) I take 300mg in the morning and 75mg at night, along with Wellbutrin. . Clomipramine has worked very well most of the time. I still have the chronic crashes occasionally that can last for months, but that is the nature of the disease. I have none of the nausea, dizzy, or aggressive etc symptoms I read about here. The addictiveness is the only negative. I have gone into severe and dibilitating withdrawal when trying to trim down the dosage. If I miss a dose I start wringing my hands, and become jumpy and fearful - even irrational. That makes me paranoid about running out, not being able to afford it, etc. even to the point of panic attacks. Antidepressants are also sneaky because you can think you are well and don't need it, when actually it is the pills themselves that make you better. If given a choice, I would still take the medication. It keeps me mostly non-suicidal (very rare - usually if pill supply is threatened) and as stable as one can expect. Yes I get angry about addictiveness, but I really appreciate not being so severely depressed, and being able to be functional, and at times even happy. I was put on 60mg for chronic cluster headache, it has been 3 years since having a pain free day, no medication or O2 works for me. This got my attacks down to 3, 30 min attacks, which is a hell of an improvements, but the side effects where devastating. I did not sleep, agitation, sweats, stomach problems, shaking all over palpations etc etc. It only gave me 4 days relief, over 3 weeks treatment (with taper) but I think if you are as desperate as i was, it was worth it by GINO from Vanduser, MO
